I used pastel pencils on PastelMat Card. The artwork measures 5"W x 7"H and has an archival white mat. It is framed in a cherry stained wood frame measuring 10"W x 12"H with UV resistant glass to help prevent fading. It has hardware for both hanging on a wall and an easel back for display on a table or shelf.

I previously worked exclusively with graphite pencils and never chose a butterfly as my subject because I couldn't capture their amazing colors. Working with pastels has opened a whole new world of possibilities. This piece is my first butterfly and I had to name it after my Grandmother Ruth who just adored them.
This is a Citrus Swallowtail perched on Night Shade flowers. I originally thought to 'fix' her tattered wings in my painting but decided she is more amazing and beautiful with all of her scars. The very image of strength and beauty!
